In 1999, the Cultural Affairs Council spearheaded the effort to have Art in Public Places Ordinance 99-07 passed by St. Lucie County’s Board of County Commissioners. This program, modeled on earlier State and Federal public arts programs, is funded by taking a small percentage of the dollars that are invested by the County for capital improvement projects and placing them in a fund designated to be utilized for the purchase of public art. An advisory Art in Public Places Committee makes suggestions to the Board of County Commissioners as to appropriate locations for public art and nominates artists that are qualified to execute these art commissions. For more information on Art in Public Places check out the St. Lucie County Florida web site.
