Nervous about my son’s launch from Kazakhstan

It was nerve-wracking enough to watch my son, Air Force Col. Ronald J. Garan Jr., lift off from Cape Canaveral on the Space Shuttle Discovery in June 2008 for a mission to the International Space Station.

Imagine what is going through my mind as I anticipate his lift off on his next mission to the space station, this time from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan aboard a Russian Soyuz TMA 21 spacecraft.
