The Great Egret (Ardea alba) is large and often seen in Florida as well as other areas. Rookeries can be seen on the St. Lucie River, the Indian River and other coastal areas.
It is sometimes confused with the Great White Heron in Florida, which is a white morph of the closely related Great Blue Heron.
